EOP Members Show 2023 – Open Call

OPEN CALL
We are looking for ambitious proposals from artists or artist-curators for the 2023 EOP Members Show.

The annual EOP Members Show is a significant opportunity to realise a solo show or curated project as part of our core artistic programme and develop an exhibition with the support of artist-curators who work at Eastside Projects. We want to invest our time, energy and resources into an ambitious project which supports someone to make a step change in their practice by developing new work or realising ideas which would not otherwise be possible.

PREVIOUS YEARS
Before you apply, we recommend you check out some of the previous years’ members shows.

  • Disco Islam: Future Phantasmagoria by Bijan Moosavi which was open at Eastside Projects from June to  August 2022. Bijan’s largest solo exhibition to date centres around Disco Islam a sci-fi quasi-commercial video combining CGI, live-action, Islamic kitsch and music, set in an immersive environment that references club culture, the desert, and the language of corporate advertising.
  • Siren of the Deep by Leah Clements,  June – July 2021. The exhibition drew on accounts of astronauts, cosmonauts, divers, religious euphoria, come-ups & come-downs to follow experiences of bliss and the subsequent return to Earth through light, sound, and sculptural elements that are activated and deactivated states.
  • The Yellow Wallpaper by Lindsey Mendick, January – March 2020.  For her show Lindsey created a bold installation that brought together video, ceramics and miniatures, exploring three intertwining stories of female ‘histrionics’, depression and Russian spies.

Previous EOP exhibitions have been offered to artists including Luke Routledge, Beth Kettel, Rafal Zar and Freya Dooley, and this process has also resulted in other opportunities within our wider programme – for example the 2021 selection process led to us commissioning a main gallery show by Emii Alrai which opened in March 2022.

THE PRACTICAL
The project budget includes £1,000 for artists fees and up to £1,500 for production and other costs related to making the exhibition including travel, accommodation, transport, installation, technical support and per diem. Eastside Projects also offers up to £75 towards artist healthcare and wellbeing.

Proposals for solo shows or curated projects are welcome but if you work collaboratively as part of a duo or group or are applying to curate a project, the fee and budget must be shared. Eastside Projects pays artists a minimum fee of £200 for existing work and £450 + production for new commissions. Please bear this in mind when developing your proposal.

In addition you will receive curatorial support and mentoring, including studio visits with members of the Eastside Projects team, and the opportunity to develop a related public event to support your show with the support of the Artist Caretaker.
