Masterclass – Photographing your Artwork

In a highly visual world good quality images are essential for applications, proposals, publications and websites if you want to effectively communicate what you do.

Designed for artists and makers this workshop will cover the basic principles of photographic documentation of artwork to art gallery standards.

We will talk through expectations and why you should produce quality images of your artworks, and focus on what’s required for studio documentation of your work.

We will look at raw workflow, colour management and how to achieve consistency when producing images optimised for a range of uses, including, websites, editions print publication and large scale reproduction. We will also cover a basic introduction to Capture One Pro Raw workflow software and learn how to create custom colour profiles for your digital camera.


Our Speaker

David Rowan is a visual artist based in Birmingham U.K.

Working professionally as a photographer for 20 years, David has produced artwork for contemporary art galleries, universities, advertising agencies and private clients. His work is regularly published in national and international newspapers, news media, art press and digital channels.

He works to private commission and in collaboration with curators and galleries throughout the U.K. He produces bodies of work for print publications, projects and exhibitions. His work is held within the permanent collections of The Library of Birmingham, The University of Birmingham, The Garman Ryan Collection at The New Art Gallery Walsall and as part of several private collections.

He also provides mentoring, teaching, training, technical advice and specialist support for the professional imaging community, students and artists.
