ESP & Grand Union at Ceri Hand Summer Fete
Saturday 17 August
12 – 6pm
Ceri Hand Gallery
London

In August ESP and Grand Union participated in Ceri Hand Gallery’s first Summer Fete.

Alongside stalls presented by artists from across the UK we took a stand that comprised of a range of editions from Eastside Projects and Grand Union. We presented a selection of publications by ESP members; Eastside Projects editions by Liam Gillick, David Rowan, Joanne Tatham & Tom O’Sullivan and the Yangjan Group as well as Grand Union editions by BAZ, Helen Brown, Harminder Judge and Kjersti G Andvig & Lars Laumann.

Artists’ performances and activities ran throughout the day. After a call-out for suggestions we put together some activities and performances devised by ESP members including:

– The Birmingham Beauty Bar, opened for the time by artists Mathew Parkin and Joanne Masding, offering nail art, contouring, wet-look-gel hairstyling, and lint rolling.

– The first ever Lazy Susan Painting Club led by graphic design duo An Endless Supply

– BAZ Summer Fete Games including ‘Splat the Studio Rat’ (with the opportunity to hit interchangeable art-world faces with a rounders bat), and an ‘Extra Special’ Tombola with CV fillers (fictional residencies and exhibitions which will boost chances of art world fame) as prizes

Other performances included Gemma Marmalade’s fishwives street fight with real fish and live opera soundtrack and a Tombola with melting Iceland prizes by Matthew de Kersaint Giraudeau. Sam Keogh performed as Oscar the Grouch, Nathaniel Pitt set up a production line with his family, creating anarchy badges for 6 hours straight, before they could go on holiday and Robert Foster will be the artist in stocks for the day. Artists games included ‘Guess the weight of the cake’ by Dominic from Luton, who created a cake in the likeness of gallery owner Ceri Hand; Tarot readings were provided by John Walter and robot races were run by Juneau Projects.
