Hit the North!
Visit Leeds, see the British Art Show (BAS8), visit galleries, artist-led spaces and projects and find out all about the art-scene from artists and curators based in the city.
BAS8 is organized by the Hayward every five years and provides an overview of the most exciting contemporary art produced in the UK. Curated by Anna Colin and Lydia Yee, the show includes work by 42 artists and will see Leeds Art Gallery de-install almost their entire collection in order to accommodate the exhibition.
Leeds based ESP member Mathew Parkin has programmed a jam-packed two days of visits and social events for us. There may be a couple of changes but here’s the plan:

On the way back we will drop into Hepworth Wakefield to see exhibitions by Enrico David and Des Hughes, and Yorkshire Sculpture Park where there is a show by Bill Viola. Return to Birmingham by about 4pm.
The weekend will of course also be a great way to meet, and get to know, other ESP members.
ESP will arrange and cover travel by shared car from Birmingham to Leeds for up to 20 members – we can contribute an equivalent amount towards your travel if you are based elsewhere. You will need to pay for two nights accommodation – we are hoping to stay at East Street Arts’ Art Hostel, which has both 8-10 bed and double rooms. Once we know how many people have signed up we will confirm costs but, with a bit of sharing, we expect it will cost members around £50 each for two nights.
To sign up email anna-s@eastsideprojects.org with a short text explaining why you want to come to Leeds, and what you hope to get out of the trip. Please also let us know if you have a car and can drive, or if you would be prepared to drive a hire car.
