Summer Camp is back in the gallery and online – slightly later in the year, but with the same spirit!!!

Summer Camp is an opportunity for EOP members to try out ideas, experiment, and take over Eastside Projects. Over the course of two weeks, three artists will have the opportunity to work alongside one another in our main gallery. In parallel, a series of social events and feedback sessions will support the artists time in the space. The two weeks will culminate in the Summer Camp Show where residency artists will share what they have made alongside work by other EOP members. The Summer Camp Show will launch on October’s Digbeth First Friday and be open for a week.

There are four ways to get involved …

Eligibility
This opportunity is only open to EOP members. Find out more about membership HERE.

Summer Camp: Micro-residencies

Artists Fee £800
Production budget £250

Micro Residency period: 27 September – 7 October (Tuesday–Friday)

We are offering bursaries to three EOP members to take over the gallery across eight days and use the space, resources and time to test new ideas and work in progress in ways they wouldn’t usually be able to.

The outcomes of this intensive micro-residency period will form the backbone of the Summer Camp Show.

There is no brief. We are not looking for people with finished work, instead we are looking for people who are at a stage where they have ideas or work in progress that they need to get out of the studio and test in a space, in conversation with others. You will need to be self motivated and able to work on your own initiative, but there will be access to some tools and equipment and support from Eastside Projects staff. If you think you might need something specific to realise your ideas, or have any access needs please mention this in your application.

How to Apply

Applications are online only. Apply HERE
Application Deadline: Thursday 14 July, 10am

We acknowledge that application writing is unpaid labour and we want to keep this process to a minimum. As such, we are asking for a brief expression of interest to be submitted via our online form, and no more. Applications can be written, or an audio / video submission. If applying via audio/video please host externally (eg. Vimeo) and copy the link into your application.

We strongly advise you to prepare the material in advance and then upload it to avoid losing information.

The key questions you will need to think about in your expression of interest are:

  • Why you would like to participate in the Micro-Residency at Summer Camp.
  • What work in progress you would plan to develop/try out at Summer Camp.
  • What tools or equipment or support you think you will need from Eastside Projects.

Performance Platform

Artists Fee £300
Production budget £150

Performance: Friday 7 October, 6–8pm

We are looking for two performances to be showcased at Summer Camp during Digbeth First Friday, these will be a highlight for the evening, and will be shown in amongst the Summer Camp Show.

You might have an idea you haven’t fully realised or a performance you have only ever tested parts of, or perhaps you want to try making work in a new space. We are not necessarily looking for fully formed works, we are equally interested in ideas that might grown and take shape in Summer Camp. Tech set ups will need to be fairly simple as it will be a busy time in the gallery but you will be supported by the Eastside Projects team and have access to some AV equipment should you need it – for example we do have the capacity to amplify performances.
