Deadlines:

Scratch Night Bursaries - 14 July
Summer Camp Showreel - 19 August
Summer Camp Show - 26 August

Summer Camp is ESP’s annual takeover of Eastside Projects. This year it will run from 27 August to 6 September, when it culminates in a one night only show for Digbeth First Friday.

All ESP members are invited to present work as part of the Summer Camp Show, and we are also offering a number of bursaries to support members to use the gallery as an expanded studio and test ideas in progress.

Expanded Studio Bursaries
We are offering up to five £300 bursaries to ESP members that would like to take over the gallery to develop and test new ideas in space. Instead of trying to fully resolve a work we would like you to think of Summer Camp as a studio with the opportunity to open your process up to the public at the end of the second week.

Participants will be expected to be self-motivated, but will be supported by critical feedback from Eastside Projects staff. There will be access to a limited pool of tools and equipment. You will have access to the space from 27 August to 6 September.

TO APPLY email a short proposal – max 500 words or a 3 minute video – explaining what you would like to test and why, and a link to your website or instagram to submissions@eastsideprojects.org with ‘Expanded Studio’ as the email subject. Please also complete our equal opportunities survey that you will find  here. DEADLINE: 14 July 2019.

Scratch Night Bursaries
As a part of Digbeth First Friday we would like to invite three members working with performance to test out new ideas live, in front of the Digbeth First Friday Audience. Each participant will receive a micro-bursary of £100.

The performances will take place within the main gallery space which will be a busy and changing environment with plenty of distractions. Pieces should be up to 10 minutes long and need limited technical assistance. Scratch Night Bursary artists will have access to the gallery from Wednesday 4 August.

TO APPLY email a short proposal – max 500 words or a 3 minute video – explaining what you would like to test and why, and a link to your website or instagram to submissions@eastsideprojects.org with ‘Scratch Night’ as the email subject. Please also complete our equal opportunities survey that you will find  here. DEADLINE: 14 July 2019.

Summer Camp Show
All ESP members are invited to present new work made in the last 12 months as part of Summer Camp Show. You will be able to bring and install work on 4, 5 and 6 September.

TO TAKE PART Email submissions@eastsideprojects.org with a description of the work you would like to show by 26August 2019. Please also complete our equal opportunities survey that you will find  here.

Showreel
As part of the Summer Camp Show, we will put together a showreel of members film and video work to show in the 2nd Gallery. We would like to invite members to screen a mix of completed and in-development works. This is a great opportunity to test how your film and video looks and feels in a large gallery space, as well as presenting your work in public and to peers. Works should be no longer than 15 minutes long.

TO TAKE PART email submissions@eastsideprojects.org with the name and duration of the work you would like to submit by 19 August 2019. Please also complete our equal opportunities survey that you will find  here.

Events
Alongside the opportunities to show work, a series of one-off events will take place in the gallery. We will bring back There Is No Script For This, focusing on quick fire presentations about developing practice or careers. We will also have an afternoon Crit Club with the Expanded Studio artists and other ESP members and will host a Potluck Dinner.

Art Licks
Though you can show any work at Summer Camp, this year we are particularly keen to see work by artists working in film and performance as we have an opportunity to take new work that takes those forms to Art Licks Weekend in October 2019.  The theme of this year Art Licks Weekend is Interdependence: considering how participating projects work within a network of friendship, exchange and shared dialogue. The work will be selected from performance and video works presented at Summer Camp. We can offer selected artists a small fee and contribution towards travel costs to show work at the Art Licks Weekend.
