Primary – Studio A4 Micro-residency

A horizontally oriented textile panel hangs against a plain white gallery wall. The surface is predominantly vivid pink with yellow-green woven motifs arranged symmetrically across the composition, including stylised animals, birds and plant forms. The fabric is disrupted by several horizontal openings that reveal underlying layers. Long loose threads in multiple colours hang from the edges and across the surface, some trailing downward in arcs. A narrow band of lighter pink fabric runs along the top edge. The frayed edges and exposed structure emphasise processes of weaving, cutting and unravelling. Raisa Kabir, Neon compound histories, 2024. Silk, wool, and synthetic yarns, 50 cm x 74 cm. Callout released: May 2026

Primary (Nottingham) are inviting proposals from artists who are part of the Kaleidoscope Network (including EOP members) for a two-day micro-residency in Studio A4 (at Primary) taking place in Summer 2026. This opportunity sits at the crossover between Artist Development and the Kaleidoscope Network, and is designed to support site-responsive live performance research in dialogue with the themes of their exhibition Queer Texture.

Selected artists will receive £500 to undertake two days of action-research in Studio A4. This is a space for experimentation, thinking and embodied inquiry supporting your pace — not production pressure.

What the Residency Offers:

  • £500 artist fee for a two-day micro-residency
  • Time and space in Studio A4, a flexible, process-led environment
  • Optional opportunity to self-stage an online sharing during or after the residency. Any sharing must be online only and access will be limited to members of the Kaleidoscope Network.
  • Access support: Primary can financially support a Studio Assistant (Access) to work with you during the residency, tailored to your access requirements
  • Travel expenses up to a total of £75. The opportunity is designed for artists who can travel to Nottingham and Studio A4 for two days. They are also able to offer financial support up to a total of £90 for accommodation if you wish to stay in Nottingham rather than commute.

Who This Opportunity Is For

Primary welcome applications from artists who identify with any of the following:

  • Queer
  • Disabled
  • Deaf
  • Chronically ill
  • Neurodivergent
  • Crip
  • Mad
  • Sick
  • Spoonie

They particularly encourage artists whose practices engage with embodiment, care, access intimacy, crip time, queer methodologies or site-responsive time-based media to apply.
