Other People’s Trades

Do you have a passion for a material, process or book? An artist, writer, scientist or friend who you want to tell the world about? Or a programme, project or practice that you want to share with others?

ESP is looking for short and snappy talks on objects, ideas, histories or relationships. We invite practitioners to introduce a topic that they feel passionately about, or talk about their own work and projects. Each person will have five minutes to speak in a quick-fire event followed by drinks and dinner in the gallery. The challenge here is to distill your excitement into five short minutes but the joy is that they’ll be over before you know it and you relax and enjoy other people’s insights.

From 5.30pm the Black Pleasure bar will be open for drinks and from 6.30 we’ll serve dinner.

Come and share your ideas and meet other ESP members and practitioners from around the UK. To sign up for a slot email: elinor@eastsideprojects.org by November 24 with a suggested topic and a sentence that you feel describes you.

For more info on how to sign up to attend the event but not participate see here.

* This event takes its name from Primo Levi’s book of essays of the same title in which the writer discusses spiders, butterflies, fear, writing and many other things. Levi described the work as ‘the fruit of my roaming about as a curious dilettante for more than a decade … invasions of the field, incursions into other people’s hunting preserves, forays into the boundless territories of zoology, astronomy and linguistics.’
