Go Midlands! Away Days

Deadline: 1 July 2026

A photo looking over Birmingham city centre. Eastside Projects is in the centre. On its front is a large billboard. Text on a red background says I cannot make you happy.

We are looking for a group of up to ten EOP’ers to join us on a series of three Go Midlands! Away Days in Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham.

Go Midlands! is a great opportunity to find out more about the art scenes in each city from the people who live there, compare the different contexts and make new connections with artists, organisers and curators based in cities across the region.

We’ll be on our Midlands tour with artists from Two Queens in Leicester and Primary in Nottingham. Both excellent and ambitious artist led spaces, check them out if you haven’t already.

How does it work?

Good question.

If you sign up you are committing to coming on three Away Days :

  1. Friday 17 July 11am–5pm – Away Day in Birmingham, hosted by Eastside Projects
  2. Autumn 2026 – Away Day in Leicester, hosted by Two Queens
  3. Spring 2027 – Away Day in Nottingham, hosted by Primary

Each organisation will open the doors to the art scene in their home city, and connect you with artists and curators who are making work and running galleries and projects. Being hosted in this way creates relaxed opportunities to build networks, meet artists working elsewhere, and understand more about the creative spaces, projects and people in different cities.

EOP members can claim a travel bursary of up to £30 for each Away Day, payable on receipt of an invoice and receipts.

How to apply:

Email a short expression of interest to info@eastsideprojects.org by Wednesday 1 July

  • In it let us know why you would like to be part of Go Midlands!
  • Where you are based (you do not have to be based in the Midlands to apply, but will need to be able to get to each city by about 11am to take part).
  • If you have any access needs we need to consider

We aim to let everyone know if they have a spot by Friday 3 July.

Access Notes:

We have some budget set aside to support access needs. The Away Days involve visiting a number of different sites so can be quite full on. The group will mostly navigate the city on foot, and will be visiting at least some spaces that do not have step free access. If you would like to chat about how to make the day more accessible for you, drop us an email on info@eastsideprojects.org
