PRE-APPLICATION WORKSHOP: Thursday 29 July 2021, 1–2pm
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Monday 23 August 2021
CONVERSATIONS with shortlisted members: Friday 10 September 2021
EXHIBITION: 3 June – 6 August 2022
The annual EOP Members Show is part of Eastside Projects’ core artistic programme.
We want to invest our time, energy, and resources into ambitious projects and support Artists and Artist-Curators to make a step-change in their practice by developing and showing new work and ideas in ways that would not otherwise be possible.
The selected EOP member will develop their project over the coming months with the support of Artists and Artist-Curators who work at Eastside Projects, leading towards an exhibition in our second gallery. The exhibition will run alongside a show by Canadian artist Rajni Perera in our main gallery. During this time Birmingham will be hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games and be in the spotlight, with a focus on the city’s cultural programmes. We welcome expressions of interest that reflect the ambition, opportunity and complexity of this context.
We recommend you visit this year’s members show, The Siren of the Deep, by Leah Clements, which is open from 11 June – 31 July 2021. Leah’s immersive installation draws on accounts of astronauts, cosmonauts, divers, religious euphoria, come-ups & come-downs to follow experiences of bliss and the subsequent return to Earth. Previous EOP exhibitions have been offered to artists including Lindsey Mendick, Luke Routledge, Beth Kettel, Rafal Zar and Freya Dooley, and this process has also resulted in other opportunities within our wider programme – for example the 2021 selection process led to us commissioning a main gallery show by Emii Alrai which will open in January 2022.
We are keen to support all members to apply and welcome conversations around access needs. We particularly encourage applications from Black people, Asian people and people from Global Majority backgrounds.
