Carla Busuttil will be discussing the meaning and value of culture in relation to ideas of resistance. Here she will be thinking about cultural resistance from a biographical perspective and relating it back to contemporary concerns. Asking broad questions for a lively lunchtime chat:
Should art (or artists) exhibit resistance to power? Or is any movement or action destined to be subsumed into the dominant narratives of Capital and entrenched Political interest?
Carla Busuttil is a South African born artist. Her practice engages with ideas around social structures and the genealogies of power, partly informed by her experience of growing up in late apartheid South Africa which she views as a febrile place for contemplating the duality of structural change and enduring social injustice.
