Artists Index: Slavs and Tatars

Slavs and Tatars A faction of polemics and intimacies devoted to an area east of the former Berlin Wall and west of the Great Wall of China known as Eurasia. The collective’s work spans several media, disciplines, and a broad spectrum of cultural registers, focusing on an oft-forgotten sphere of influence between Slavs, Caucasians and Central Asians. First commissioned by Book Works in 2008 for Kidnapping Mountains, this new project, which explores the possibilities of solidarity between Poland and Iran takes the form of a billboard poster, newspaper and an archival installation. Slavs and Tatars are scattered throughout Eurasia.
